Social Media Event

May 19th, 2010

What the heck is a Tweet?!

What the heck is a Tweet?!

Posted by Laura

Yesterday was a great day! I had the opportunity to go into Toronto to attend a Social Media Event hosted by Queen’s University with some very lovely ladies.
My first thought was that I would pretty much already know everything that the speakers would talk about.. and for the most part I did; but there were some excellent points expressed.

Did you know that there are more than 200 million blogs in existence!!
And you choose to read ours!! This makes us happy :)

The event speakers were great. Kerry Munro and Neil Bearse were not only valid and extremely knowledgeable but they made the two hours fun!

For any company who is choosing to go the path of Social Media to help get your name out there (which I highly reccommend!) now is the time.

Have no idea how or where to start? Check out http://neilbearse.com/ and
http://ca.linkedin.com/in/kerrymunro as a starting point.

Neil’s webpage will offer you many tips on how to get started.

As for Walt Rickli Studios.. we are currently updating our Facebook page and are in the process getting back into the swing of updating our Twitter account.
I will post all the information on where to find us over the next few days!

Enjoy the sun.

Sensory Garden Project

April 29th, 2010

As part of the ever expanding vision of Walt Rickli Studios, Walt has been commissioned to design an innovative Sensory Garden for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

The garden will feature various sensory elements intended to promote the interaction between children with ASD and their sensory systems within a natural environment. The garden will also incorporate feedback through the use of Social Media to assist in discovering the best ideas from around the globe. Professionals, parents, as well as individuals who have life experience will be able to provide ideas, advice and feedback.

This truly collaborative project will incorporate design functions intended to stimulate the visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory, vestibular and proprioceptive sensory systems.

Stay tuned for updates!

Busy Bees in the Studio

April 27th, 2010

Well Spring is in the air and we have some amazing projects happening in the studio.

First, a big thank you to everyone who submitted an application for our Stone Sculptor Assistant position. We had and overwhelming response from inspired and skilled candidates but in the end we just couldn’t choose one person…so we choose two!

I am pleased to introduce you to the newest members of our team.

Craig has already been in the shop for two weeks now and has proved to be a great asset. He has picked up on the inner workings of the shop and has already begun to adopt our sense of humor.

Brian will begin with us in the next week or so and we are thrilled, especially since he loves Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies as much as we do!

Both of our new team members bring with them a vast amount of experience and oomph and we are energized to put their artistic powers to work.

As far as projects go…there are many! The shop is overflowing with creativeness and there is little room for much else.

Recently Walt has been commissioned to design and construct not only a main floor powder room but also a healing loft in the Brantford, ON area.
The concept that Walt came up with for the powder room is called ‘River Wash’. It gives the feeling of a river bed that has been washed away. By incorporating many unique components such as Black Mexican Pebbles, Driftwood and even a heated Granite boulder seat Walt has been able to submerge the viewer into a feeling of ‘River Wash’.

The Healing Room has been designed to include 500 year old Juniper Root as well as the use of Fuschite for the counters and work areas. It is believed that Fuschite carries healing characteristics and can provide many benefits for internal and external therapeutics. This room will provide the perfect setting for reflecting and being at peace.

The crew has been working hard and we will be posting pictures once the project is complete.
